Tualatin Artists Present Second Annual Studio Tour
Tualatin, OR, November 21, 2009: Thanksgiving weekend, fourteen local artists will collaborate with corporate sponsors to invite local shoppers and art enthusiasts into their world. The tour includes both artists' studios and sponsor locations, where the process of creation and finished artwork will be on display and available for purchase November 27-29. Artwork in diverse media including painting, sculpture, jewelry, glass, fiber and photography will be featured at the tour's seven stops.
Deb Steele, a jewelry artist who co-chairs the Tualatin artists' group, is enthusiastic about this year's event. "It is exciting to see our community of artists working together. There is so much creativity right here in our own city." Steele will once again display her artisan fine silver jewelry in her studio near Ibach Park, as well as the creations of fused glass artist Ann Cavanaugh.
Artists opening their studios to the public also include Rick French, whose resin creations are inspired by the ocean, Hamish Corstorphine, metal sculptor, and Judy Pozo, portrait artist. More artists and their work will appear at the Martinazzi Square Starbucks and the Juanita Pohl Center. The Tualatin Library will host a historical photographic display in conjunction with the tour.
Tour stops will be marked by brightly colored teal signs and banners with an autumn leaves motif. Maps of all tour stops will be available at Starbucks, the Juanita Pohl Center and the Tualatin Library. The tour map and a complete list of participating artists and sponsors are also available from the group's web site, www.tualatinstudiotour.com.
Linda Moholt, CEO of the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce, recognizes the importance of artists in Tualatin's business community. Moholt explained, "the studio tour has become a seasonal tradition where the community can appreciate and purchase the work of local artisans." The studio tour complements other artistic ventures of the city, such as ArtSplash, held annually in July and the self-guided Tualatin ArtWalk.
The Tualatin Studio Tour artists chose to invite the participation of local organizations and businesses. Sponsors not only provide financial support to the tour, but exhibition space for artists whose studios are too small or located in areas that make public access difficult.
